Hanoi tourism introduces new products

Published

on

Hanoi has introduced a number of tourism products adaptable to the “new normal” and their initial success has ignited hopes of an early recovery in the capital’s tourism sector.

A tour to see red silk cotton flowers and visit the Vietnam National Museum of History was introduced on March 19. With simple but familiar arrangements and decorations, visitors can gain a sense of being in a “village within a city” in the centre of Hanoi.

The tour has been organised by Hanoitourist and the Vietnam National Museum of History, with the aim of introducing new tourism products for visitors to fall in love with Hanoi.

Along with travel agencies, the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has planned to improve tours from the city centre to the suburbs. The Department will organise a tourism programme at the end of March with events such as a Gift Festival, an Ao Dai Festival, and hot air balloon tours at a longan orchard./.

Published

More than 20 Indian travel agencies together with media representatives recently conducted a field trip to the central Vietnamese cities of Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue. The trip was part of the Indian tourism sector’s Famtrip programme, aimed at introducing Vietnam to Indian travellers.

The delegation visited famous tourist destinations in the three destinations and assessed the quality of local hotels and restaurants, especially those catering to Indian customers.

Figures show that the number of Indian tourists visiting Vietnam reached nearly 138,000 in 2022, ranking it 9th among the 10 largest source markets.

The field trip will help boost the number of Indian visitors to Vietnam this year, which is forecast to increase by 160% compared to 2019.

India is one of two countries in the world with a population in excess of 1 billion, together with China, and is a source market of potential for any country, including Vietnam./.

Hanoi – Vietnam needs to have support
policies for developing new tourism products and services capable of attracting high-spending international visitors, said insiders.

Addressing a national conference on
tourism development in 2023 recently, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism
Nguyen Van Hung admitted that Vietnam’s tourism products have yet to
catch up with global trends and failed to fully utilise the natural advantages, especially
cultural resources.

“We only offer what we have, not what visitors want, so our products
lack attractiveness for tourists,” he said.

He added that tourism linkage among regions, localities, and sectors remain weak, resulting in tourism products not diverse and attractive to tourists.

According to Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association Vu The Binh, it is necessary to develop attractive
and high-spending products like golf tourism.

The number of international visitors travelling to Vietnam for golf tours is on the rise,
he said, calling for exemption or
reduction of excise tax for international golf tourists in order to
increase the competitiveness of this tourism service.

Meanwhile, Deputy General Director of Saigontourist Vo Anh Tai said attention
should be paid to cruise ship tourism, noting that his firm welcomed eight international
cruise ships with over 23,000 visitors in March only.

The company aims to serve 170,000 international
holiday-makers arriving on 30 cruise ships in 2023, he said.

Tai also proposed policies to attract foreign tourists attending diplomatic
events; trade, and investment promotion programmes; fairs and exhibitions; and international
sports and culture events.

President of the Imex Pan Pacific Group (IPPG) Johnathan Hanh Nguyen suggested
developing a number of potential tourism models such as health-care
tourism and duty-free outlets, saying that these generate high revenues and
help increase competitiveness of Vietnam’s tourism in the region.

He
also proposed cooperation with international partners to develop entertainment,
resort, and casino complexes; and amusement parks whose brand is recognised
worldwide.

Speaking at a seminar held by Sai Gon Giai phong newspaper, Dang Manh Phuoc,
CEO of The Outbox Company – a market researcher and data analyst on tourism and
hotel, stressed the importance of research in consumer behaviour
and demand in target markets, so as to build
appropriate promotion strategies.

Tai also urged Vietnam’s
representative agencies abroad to play a greater role in promoting the national tourism brand to
international visitors./.

Lam Dong –
A tourism golden week
will be held in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, home to famous
resort city Da Lat, from April 27 to May 3.

The provincial People’s Committee said on March 22
that it approved in principle the organisation plan by the Department of
Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The event, the second of its kind, will take place
in all the 12 cities and districts in the province, featuring special programmes,
according to the department.

The theme of “Tourism of experience, culture and
cuisines” is picked up for Da Lat and Lac Duong, Lam Ha, Duc Trong and Don
Duong districts, with 14 programmes, including an opening ceremony, an
international music festival, exhibitions and art performances.

Community tourism will be promoted in Bao Loc city
and Bao Lam, Di Linh and Dam Rong districts during the week through a folk
dance festival, hot mineral bath services and a cycling tournament.

Other districts – Da Hoai, Da Ter and Cat Tien –
will host a paragliding tournament, folk games, cycling tournaments and other
sport activities.

Situated on a plateau around 1,500 metres above sea
level, Da Lat enjoys year-round cool weather that is in contrast to Vietnam’s
tropical climate.

As one of Vietnam’s biggest flower-growing regions,
producing around 3 billion flower cuts every year, the city is a must-visit
destination for flower lovers around the world.

Last year, the city welcomed about 7 million
visitors, including about 140,000 foreign visitors./.
