Japan grants $1.38mn for 9 projects in Vietnam

The Japanese government announced a grant of US$1.38 million as non-refundable aid for nine projects in Vietnam on Friday.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Hanoi, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Takio Yamada said these projects involve a wide range of fields, including health care, education, transport and environment, and will be carried out in a variety of communities across the country.

They comprise a project on cluster bomb disposal in central Quang Binh Province and a project to upgrade rehabilitation and vocational training equipment for northern Thai Binh Province’s Association for Agent Orange/dioxin Victims.

Projects on building schools, bridges, irrigation works and clean water supply stations in other provinces are also included in the package.

The scale of each project of non-refundable aid at the grassroots level is not large, but the projects are designed to bring key benefits to the maximum amount of people in these communities, according to the ambassador.

A total of 724 Japanese-funded projects have been implemented since 1992 with a total value of up to $64.5 million, he said.

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh, chairman of the Vietnam Association of Agent Orange/dioxin Victims (VAVA), thanked the Japanese government for the assistance, saying it has brought practical benefits to many Agent Orange/dioxin victims and their descendants in recent years, the Vietnam News Agency quoted.

Chinese foreign minister to visit Vietnam this Friday

Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi will visit Vietnam from Friday to Saturday this week at the invitation of Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang.

During his stay in Vietnam, Wang, who is a Politburo member of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, and Deputy PM Quang will co-chair the 15th session of the Steering Committee for Vietnam-China Bilateral Cooperation.

The top Chinese diplomat will also meet with Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Vietnamese State President Vo Van Thuong, as well as hold talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Bui Thanh Son.

Before leaving Vietnam, Minister Wang is scheduled to meet with Le Hoai Trung, head of the Vietnamese Communist Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations.

Previously, Deputy PM Quang had a meeting with Minister Wang during his visit to China on August 16 this year.

Deputy PM Quang affirmed Vietnam’s consistent stance on fostering relations with China and the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

He suggested the two countries closely coordinate and prepare for high- and all-level delegation exchanges, while boosting sustainable trade cooperation and strengthening road and railway infrastructure connections.

The Chinese foreign minister stressed that China attaches importance to developing its relations with Vietnam and is ready to closely collaborate with the Southeast Asian nation to prepare for upcoming high-level visits and exchanges.

Wang agreed to effectively promote cooperation mechanisms between the two nations, especially the Steering Committee for Vietnam-China Bilateral Cooperation.

Vietnamese leader calls for deeper cooperation between Japanese prefectures and Vietnamese localities

Vietnamese State President Vo Van Thuong proposed Governor of Fukuoka Prefecture Hattori Seitaro and top officials from other prefectures in Japan’s Kyushu region foster partnership with certain Vietnamese localities, including Vinh Long, Binh Thuan, and Can Tho, heard their meeting on Wednesday.

The meeting was part of the top Vietnamese official’s Japan visit, which was scheduled to wrap up on Thursday.

The top Vietnamese leader also hinted at beefing up cultural and high-ranking delegation exchanges.

State President Thuong called on enterprises in the Kyushu region to invest in the processing, production, smart agriculture, and waste treatment fields in Vietnam.

The Japanese prefectures in these regions, along with Vietnamese localities, should enhance workforce training and worker exchange, he said.

Officials from the Kyushu region affirmed that the region expected to deepen partnership with Vietnamese localities and receive more highly-skilled workers from the Southeast Asian nation.

Thuong underscored that the elevation of the Japan-Vietnam relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and the world will open a new chapter in the two nations’ ties.

The upgrade of their relations coincides with the two sides celebrating the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.

Vietnam – Japan ties have made great strides in various fields over the past many years, with 100 pairs of localities forming twinning relationships, according to Thuong.

Thuong also expressed his pleasure in visiting the Kyushu region, which established a relation with Vietnam in the 16th century.

The top Vietnamese official appreciated the Kyushu region’s efforts in boosting cooperation with Vietnam.

Furthermore, Thuong proposed the Japanese side continue to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese citizens to work, live, and study in Japan, reported the Vietnam News Agency.

Turkey sees Vietnam as key partner in Asia-Pacific: minister

Vietnam is considered Turkey’s leading partner in the Asia-Pacific region, Turkish Minister of Trade Omer Bolat told a reception for Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Wednesday.

PM Chinh arrived at Esenboga International Airport in Ankara, the capital city of Turkey, on Tuesday evening (local time), starting his official visit to that country through Thursday.

After his two-day Turkey visit, PM Chinh will leave Ankara for Dubai to attend the 28th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) at the invitation of the government of the United Arab Emirates.

Speaking of the potential cooperation between Vietnam and Turkey, Minister Bolat said more and more Turkish firms, mainly active in the construction and industrial production fields, are eyeing investment in Vietnam.

Bolat also announced that a delegation of Turkish enterprises will visit Vietnam in 2024 to seek cooperation and investment opportunities.

He affirmed that PM Chinh’s Turkey visit constitutes a key milestone for the 45th anniversary of bilateral ties between the two nations and boosts their partnership.

Addressing the reception, PM Chinh congratulated Turkey on its achievements in economic diversification and its efforts to foster the industry, agriculture, and construction growth, while elevating tech application.

The Vietnamese government leader also highly valued the role of the Turkish Ministry of Trade in boosting economic partnership between the two countries.

PM Chinh proposed the Turkish trade ministry closely collaborate with Vietnamese agencies to put some cooperation plans into practice.

Among them is a scheme to start negotiations on a Vietnam-Turkey free trade agreement.

The top Vietnamese official also suggested the two nations should roll out more trade and investment promotion programs, expecting Turkey to open a wider door for Vietnamese goods.
