Hanoi – An estimated 18 million international tourists visited Vietnam in 2019, but their spending in the country remained low, which is a challenge to the tourism sector. Night-time services and products could be the key answer to the issue.

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), night tourism products and services are quite bustling in a number of cities and tourist hubs like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hoi An, Sapa, and Hue. They take place in the forms of walking streets, shopping malls, night food, night markets, bars, cafes, cinemas, discos, and other art and entertainment events on and off the street.

These activities keep tourists to stay longer and stimulate consumer demand, which in turn will attract more investors to pour their capital in entertainment and shopping facilities. Meanwhile, travel agencies will have plans to offer longer tours, and longer stays mean more money spent.

In July 2020, the Prime Minister approved a project on the development of nigh economy serving the promotion of domestic consumption and tourism. It focuses on developing cultural services, entertainment, dining, shopping, and tourism activities taking place from 6pm to 6am the next day.

Specifically, by 2025, Vietnam will form a system of night tourism products in large urban tourist centres like Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An, Nha Trang, Da Lat, Can Tho, Phu Quoc, and Ho Chi Minh City. As a result, the average spending of visitors are expected to increase by 5-6 percent; while the average length of their stay will be half a day longer.

Currently, many localities in the central region have embarked on building and developing night tourism products to better meet the needs of holiday makers.

Quang Binh is building its evening sightseeing tour by electric cars and a night market street in Dong Hoi city as well as night leisure services at the Phong Nha –Ke Bang area. Thua Thien-Hue province’s Hue city, meanwhile, is ready to launch a night walking street around its imperial citadel area. Quang Nam province, which considers night tourism services a path toward the realisation of sustainable tourism development goals, focuses on activities in the local Hoi An ancient town, and at the Vinpearl Nam Hoi An complex, Hoi An Impression Theme Park, and Hoi An Lune Centre./.

Hanoi – With stronger tourism growth forecast for this year, the domestic
market is expected to give the strongest boost to the recovery of this sector.

Not Chinese
travellers or any other sources of international tourists, it is the domestic
sector that will remain the “brightest” factor helping Vietnam’s tourism continue
recovering strongly in 2023, Nguyen Huu Y Yen, General Director of the Saigontourist
Travel Service Co. Ltd, said as cited by Thanh nien (Young people) newspaper.

He said
before the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, the three biggest sources of foreign
visitors to Vietnam were China, Russia, and the Republic of Korea (RoK).

Charter
flights from the RoK have been resumed just recently while there haven’t been
many Chinese tourists, and Russian tourists haven’t returned. The European and
US markets have begun to bounce back but are unlikely to record a breakthrough in
2023, he pointed out.

Yen
expected the number of international tourists in 2023 will return to about 50%
of the 2019 level. Meanwhile, in just over six months of 2022, the number of
domestic travellers rebounded to over 50% of the pre-pandemic level, and this
year’s figure will definitely reach 70 – 75%. Outbound tourism will also share
the same trend.

The
domestic market can regain the 2019 growth in 2024, the Saigontourist CEO predicted.

About 9
million Vietnamese travelled during the recent Lunar New Year holiday, surging 47.5%
year on year, statistics show.

Nguyen
Trung Khanh, General Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism,
expressed his belief that 2023 will be a vibrant year for Vietnamese tourism in
terms of both domestic and international markets.

He cited
some experts as saying that the world will witness vigorous growth in travel
demand this year. As a bright spot in the global tourism map, Vietnam will
definitely not be out of this trend./.

hospitality of the locals, the central coastal city of Da Nang boasts rich food known to world tourists for its
unique taste.

A convergence of local specialties and those of nearby provinces and
foreign countries, Da Nang is considered as a representative of the rich
culinary heritage of Vietnam.

Some of must-try dishes include banh xeo (Vietnamese pancake),
mi Quang (Quang noodles), Banh trang cuon thit heo (sliced pork rolled with
rice paper), goi ca Nam O (Nam O fish salad), among others.

According to the municipal Department of Tourism, there are now
more than 4,000 dining establishments and 200 restaurants in the city. Of this, over 2,000 small- and medium-sized ones specialise in dishes of
all regions of Vietnam.

Besides the taste of local dishes, foreign tourists can find themselves in a familiar atmosphere as they are surrounded with those from the Republic of Korea, China,
Japan, and Thailand.

Over the past time, the Da Nang’s Tourism Promotion Centre and the Da Nang Cuisine Culture Association have jointly organised food festivals and competitions, and promoted the city’s famous dishes on internet platforms
such as YouTube and TikTok.

Deputy Director of the department Nguyen Xuan Binh said to attract more tourists,
the city has developed a plan to promote the locality’s cuisine into a
unique tourism product during 2023-2025, with a vision to 2030.

The plan aims to diversify and form a system of such products, thus greatly contributing to building the brand and
image of the city’s tourist destinations, promoting economic development,
generating revenue, effectively exploiting the value chains, and preserving and
enhancing the exchange of cultural values to tourists./.

Hanoi – The Vietnamese tourism
industry served 13 million domestic tourists in January, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism

Total revenue from tourists during the month was estimated at 46 trillion VND (1.96 billion USD).

During the seven-day Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday that lasted from January 20-26, the country was estimated to serve 9 million
domestic visitors, an increase of about 47.5% compared to the 2022 Tet, with an estimated revenue of 17.5 trillion VND.

The local tourism sector targets 110 million tourists this year, including 8
million foreign visitors and 102 million domestic holiday-makers; and earn some
650 trillion VND from the non-smoke industry.

In 2022, Vietnam recorded around 101.3 million domestic tourists, exceeding the yearly plan by 68.3% . The tourism sector booked some 495 trillion VND (21.1 billion USD) in revenue, 23% higher than the target, thanks to the whopping number of domestic tourists./.
