Of 400 candidates qualified for the titles of associate professor and professor, there are four female candidates for professor title, one director at a local agency, and many others working at private schools and in economically difficult areas.
There are 98 professorship council at the grassroots level that have 640 candidates applying for the titles of professor and associate professor in 2021 (88 for professor title and 552 for associate professor).
After voting at the State Professorship Council, 405 candidates have been recognized as meeting standards (42 candidates for professor title, 363 for associate professor).
The ratio of candidates meeting the requirements on the total applications is 77 percent (56.8 percent for professor title, 80.3 percent).
In 2019, the ratio was 58 percent (63 percent and 57.9 percent, respectively).
In 2020, the ratio was 62.55 percent (50.65 percent and 64.52 percent, respectively).
4 female professors
Of the candidates found on the website of the State Professorship Council, there are four female candidates.
Nguyen Thi Tuyet Mai, born in 1962, from the National Economics University, meets the standards to become a professor in economics.
Le Huyen Ai Thuy, born in 1972, from the HCM City Open University, meets the standards to become a professor in biology.
Huynh Thi Lan Huong, born in 1971, from the Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change), is qualified for the title of professor in water resources.
Vu Thi Hoang Lan, born in 1976, from the University of Public Health, meets the standards for the title of professor in medicine.
There are 83 female scientists recognized as meeting standards for the title of associate professor.
Candidates work at agencies, junior colleges, and in remote difficult areas
Some of them are:
Pham Van Tai, born in 1969, who meets standards for the title of associate professor in transport, and now works at College of Foreign Economic Relations.
Bui Van Hung, a candidate for the title of associate professor, works at the II Polytechnic College.
Pham Thi To Oanh, meeting standards to be granted the title of associate professor in Earth Science, works for the Vietnam Union of Cooperatives.
Pham The Trinh, meeting standards to become a professor in agriculture, works at the Dak Lak Department of Science and Technology.
Le Trung Dung, meeting standards to become associate professor in biology, works at the Secondary Education Department under the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET).
Vu Viet Hung, meeting standards to become associate professor in mathematics, is now head of a division at the Son La Education and Training Department.
Nguyen Huy Ngoc, meeting standards for the title of associate professor in medicine, is now Director of the Phu Tho Healthcare Department.
12 candidates work at private schools
The majority of the 400 candidates meeting the standards for the titles of associate professor and professors work at public units. Only 12 candidates work for private universities, including three for the professor title and nine for the associate professor title.
Phenikaa University has four candidates, including Ho Xuan Nang (associate professor), Phung Van Dong (professor in physics), the youngest professor this year, Nguyen Tu, and Duong Anh Tuan (associate professor in physics).
At FPT University, Phan Duy Hung is the only candidate who works for a private school and meet the standards to become an associate professor in IT.
Tran Cong Luan of Tay Do University meets standards for professor in pharmacy.
HCM City University of Technology’s Pham Ngoc Tuan Anh meets the standards to become an associate professor in pharmacy.
Duy Tan University has two candidates, including Ha Dac Binh (associate professor in electronics), and Tran Xuan Hiep (associate professor in political science).
HoaSen university’s Pham Van Tat meets standards to become professor in chemistry.
Nguyen Tat Thanh University’s Tran Viet Cuong meets standards to become associate professor in physics.
Sai Gon University of Technology’s Tran Quang Hieu meets standards to become associate professor in chemistry.
Youngest, oldest candidates
The oldest candidate for the professor title is Tran Cong Luan, born in 1953 (pharmacy), who works at Tay Do University. The youngest candidate is Phung Van Dong, born in 1981 (physics), who works at Phenikaaa University.
As for the associate professor title, the youngest is Le Van Lich, born in 1988 (physics), who works for Hanoi University of Science and Technology, while the oldest is Nguyen Ngoc Rang, born in 1954, who works for Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
