“Travel bubble” introduced to restore HCM City’s tourism

The “travel bubble” model has been billed as a potential means for Ho Chi Minh City to recover its tourism sector, which has been frozen for many months.

Under a “travel bubble” tour, visitors would mostly take part in outdoor activities such as exploring mangrove forests and rivers and only have close contact with members of their package tour.

All tourists, guides, drivers, operators, and logistics workers at tourism sites must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and test negative, while closely following the Ministry of Health’s “5K message”.

The model is being applied on two tours to Can Gio and Cu Chi in the city.

Bubble tours are initially being offered to frontline COVID-19 workers.

“This is the first time I have visited this place. It’s interesting to take a river tour and taste local seafood, said Dr Trinh Tien Dung from the Central Hospital 71 in Thanh Hoa province. “I’ll try some crab fishing later on.”

For many travel companies, “travel bubble” tours like this would a positive move to kick-start their business.

The most stringent requirements of a “travel bubble” are strictly following pandemic prevention regulations, all visitors having “green cards”, and destinations being “green zones”.

Nguyen Minh Man, Media Director from the TST Tourist Service and Trading Corporation, said: “We will look at the efficiency of a travel bubble and try to make it more suitable in safely adapting to the pandemic.”

The “travel bubble” model is currently only designed for tourists in Ho Chi Minh City. The local tourism sector and travel companies are now rushing to develop new tours and tourism products while expanding “travel bubble” activities to elsewhere.

“We will develop overnight tours to promote local tourism while improving fishing trips in the district,” said Nguyen Van Hong, Chairman of the Can Gio District People’s Committee in Ho Chi Minh City.

Ho Chi Minh City will apply the “travel bubble” model until the end of this year to restore its tourism activities. An expansion of regional tourism and a shared travel policy among localities will be significant in fully recovering the spearhead economic sector./.

Seventeen tourism services operators in the central city of Da Nang have fulfilled requirements to join a pilot programme welcoming foreign visitors back to the beach city, the municipal Department of Tourism announced on December 2.

Da Nang – Seventeen tourism services operators in the central city of Da Nang have fulfilled requirements to join
a pilot programme welcoming foreign visitors back to the beach city, the municipal Department of Tourism announced on December 2.

 
They include five accommodation facilities – Vinpearl Condotel Riverfront Danang, Vinpearl Resort and Spa, Vinpearl Luxury Resort, Risemount Resort and
Muong Thanh Luxury Da Nang; and three tourist destinations of Ngu Hanh Son
(Marble Mountains), Museum of Cham Sculpture and Sun World Ba Na Hills. 

The nine others are transport service providers.

The Da Nang People’s Committee earlier issued regulations
on the pilot programme to welcome foreign visitors back to the city, which will
be rolled out in three phases.

 
According to the city’s Tourism Department, foreign arrivals
to Da Nang from December 2021 to next February are forecast to primarily come
from key markets of the Republic of Korea and Japan, along with overseas
Vietnamese returning home.
 
The welcome of foreign tourists to Da Nang is part of efforts to revitalise the city’s tourism and related economic and services sectors,
contributing to promoting Da Nang as a safe and
attractive destination./.

A snack offered by Da Lat, the city of mist

Rather popular in Saigon, this snack—whose main ingredients are green papaya fibers and beef jerky—has a different name in Dalat City in Lam Dong Province, where it is called xắp xắp.

However, the version in Dalat has its own distinctive features beside a different name, which will please lovers of snacks.

Although they share the same main ingredients, xắp xắp, the version in Dalat, is not totally identical to their counterpart in Saigon where it is called gỏi khô bò (green papaya and beef jerky salad).

Why is the version in Dalat called xap xap? An owner of a xap xap mini restaurant in Dalat says the name may stem from how the snack is prepared. As a matter of fact, only after all the ingredients are prepared will be they neatly arranged on a plate to be quite eye-catching. Some people might have called it “xap xap” then (which means “arrangement”), and the snack has been so named.

A dish of the snack includes young papaya fibers, beef jerky, chili sauce, roasted peanuts and Thai basil leaves. Yet the dressing soy sauce is equally important. The sauce of the Saigonese version is sour and that of the version in Danang is spicy. Meanwhile, the version of Dalat combines both. In Dalat, the sauce is made from tamarind fruits which give a delicate distinctive sourness second to none.

To make their dish outstanding, cooks of xap xap in Dalat are very choosy about the ingredients to be used. The papayas must be still green to ensure the necessary chewiness. The fruits are then shaved into fibers at certain lengths. Next, the papaya fibers are soaked in ice to keep them chewy.

A dish of xap xap must encompass the chewiness of papaya and the combination of all other ingredients to help a diner feel the deliciousness of this simple snack. It is arranged in the following way. The layer at the bottom is papaya fibers. Next, it is topped with beef jerky, roasted peanuts, chili sauce and basil leaves. Finally, a plate of xap xap is dressed in the sour soy sauce.

Diners who want to have a change for their snacks while on a visit to Dalat may find a xap xap mini restaurant. Try it once and you’ll never forget it!
