HÀ NỘI — Trần Thị Bích Ngọc, a 28-year-old tattoo artist, has been named in the Art category of the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list 2022.

The young tattoo artist, also known as Ngọc Like, is renowned for her expertise in tattooing over women’s scars.

Ngọc completed her master’s degree in Motion Pictures Arts and Television from the University of Theater and Performing Arts of Hà Nội this year and was previously a graduate of the Faculty of Art Design.

She has been transforming traumatic scars into works of art since 2013, when she was 19.

While tattooing is still considered taboo in Việt Nam, she believes covering up scars with artistic tattoos can be a part of the healing process that empowers people, especially women, to start a happier chapter in their lives.

In an interview with Việt Nam News, she said: “Tattoos don’t bring luck or good fortune, but they have a spiritual value for those who have them and they give off positive energy. I’ve been doing this for a while now, and sometimes feel worn out by it all. But every time I receive a message of thanks from a customer, it’s like a ‘moral gift’ that gives me strength to pursue this path into the future.”

In addition to artist Ngọc, the 2022 Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list also includes four other Vietnamese representatives: CEO and co-founder of Coin98 Finance Nguyễn Thế Vinh (Finance & Venture Capital), CEO of Phenikaa MaaS Lê Yên Thanh  (Industry, Manufacturing & Energy), Deputy General Director of VinBus Nguyễn Thanh (Industry, Manufacturing & Energy) and designer Uyên Trần of TômTex (Industry, Manufacturing & Energy).

The 2023 Oscar nomination list has honored two Vietnamese-born actors, Quan Ke Huy and Hong Chau, the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Tuesday evening (local time).

Quan Ke Huy, also known as Jonathan Ke Quan, 52, won the Best Supporting Actor nomination for a movie in ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once,’ which has so far gained 11 Oscar nominations, marking a milestone for the representation of Asia in the world’s film industry.

The movie is a 2022 American absurdist comedy-drama film written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.

Huy has been known for appearing in the second episode of the Indiana Jones series – one of the very famous movie franchises in the 1980s in Hollywood.

On January 11, Huy won the gold trophy at the 80th Golden Globe Awards in California (the U.S.) also as the best supporting actor, surpassing even American actor Brad Pitt.

Meanwhile, the nomination for the Best Supporting Actress went to Hong Chau, a 43-year-old Vietnamese-American actress, for her role in the film ‘The Whale.’

The movie is a 2022 American psychological drama film directed by Darren Aronofsky and written by Samuel D. Hunter, based on his 2012 play of the same name.

She left a strong impression in the audience when she transforms into a nurse, also a friend trying to save the life of her obese friend, played by Brendan Fraser, or at least keep his life stable.

In 2017, Hong Chau was expected by many to be nominated for the Golden Globe Award for her supporting role in the well-known movie ‘Downsizing,’ but she suddenly was not named at the last minute.

As making up for her, Chau was honored by Variety magazine in the list of 10 Actresses to Watch in the same year.

The 95th Oscar award ceremony will take place in Hollywood, Los Angeles, the U.S., on March 12.

The Con Son community tourism area and a buckwheat flower farm in Can Tho City, Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, received a large number of visitors on Sunday, the first day of the 2023 Lunar New Year.

According to the observation of Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporters, the Con Son community tourism area in Binh Thuy District and the Buckwheat Flower Farm in Cai Rang District attracted crowds of visitors seeking to revel in the festive atmosphere of the new year.

Although tam giac mach (buckwheat) flower is among the most well-known blooms in northern Vietnam’s Ha Giang Loop, this is the first time the wildflower has been successfully planted to attract tourists in southern Vietnam.

Trinh Van Luan, owner of the Tam Giac Mach Farm, said that the flowers have bloomed after the trial period just in time for Tet holiday.

“We transported the seeds from northwestern Vietnam. The blooming season lasts up to 25 days and is currently at its peak.

“We are always looking for new tourism products to better serve locals and visitors. It was initially tough to cultivate tam giac mach, but we tried to plant and take care of it,” Luan said.

Aside from the buckwheat flower blossoms, a miniature island scene drew a large number of children since they could feed bunnies.

The majority of the children who came to the farm were overjoyed because it was their first experience playing with and feeding cute bunnies.

On this occasion, Thanh Tam Garden, located in the Con Son community tourism area, offers guests a brand-new and unique tourism product: catfish performance.

During the performance, the entire school of hundreds of fish will jump or crawl on a board or eat food when they hear the knocking signal.

The creator of this tourism product, Nguyen Thanh Tam, stated that it took him months to train the fish to perform this trick. Further, they must be healthy and of good breeding.

As a means of maintaining natural aquatic resources, Tam will release the trained fish into the Hau River when they are too large or no longer able to perform tasks.
